The Network of professional massage therapists of Quebec brings together more than 8,500 massage therapists
Structural myofascial therapy is a deep massage that works primarily on the fasciae. Fasciae are connective tissues that envelop muscles. This technique allows the therapist to manually work the fasciae layer by layer to reach the deeper areas.
This technique helps reduce muscle tension and scarring. It also helps the connective tissue regain better flexibility. Structural myofascial therapy also helps reduce pain and stiffness. Improved posture is one of the benefits of working on the fasciae as part of this practice.
Structural myofascial therapy is a complementary technique that can be combined with other massage therapy, kinesitherapy, or orthotherapy techniques to provide a personalized approach to the client. This technique requires the involvement of the client who, at the request of the therapist, carries out certain mobilizations.
The contraindications remain the same as for most techniques: fever, infection, wounds or skin problems, and a history of heart problems.
