Employment Insurance

As a result of COVID-19, the Government of Canada has decided to make changes to the Employment Insurance program. These changes will be in effect for a period of one year. For more details on Employment Insurance and to verify your eligibility, we invite you to visit the Government of Canada website at the following address: https://www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/ei/notice-covid-19.html.

Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB)

”The Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB) gives income support to employed and self-employed individuals who are directly affected by COVID-19 and are not entitled to Employment Insurance (EI) benefits.” It is therefore probably the benefit that best meets the needs of massage therapists who have lost income due to COVID-19. We invite you to consult the Government of Canada’s web page which will inform you of the eligibility criteria, application periods and conditions for this new benefit. Applications will begin on October 12, 2020 and will be retroactive to September 27, 2020.

To ensure that you are eligible for government financial assistance, we invite you to contact Service Canada directly at 1-800-808-6352 or to discuss your situation with your accountant.
