As a result of COVID-19, the Government of Canada has decided to make changes to the Employment Insurance program. These changes will be in effect for a period of one year. For more details on Employment Insurance and to verify your eligibility, we invite you to visit the Government of Canada website at the following address: https://www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/ei/notice-covid-19.html.
”The Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB) gives income support to employed and self-employed individuals who are directly affected by COVID-19 and are not entitled to Employment Insurance (EI) benefits.” It is therefore probably the benefit that best meets the needs of massage therapists who have lost income due to COVID-19. We invite you to consult the Government of Canada’s web page which will inform you of the eligibility criteria, application periods and conditions for this new benefit. Applications will begin on October 12, 2020 and will be retroactive to September 27, 2020.

Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit (CRSB)
” The Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit (CRSB) gives income support to employed and self-employed individuals who are unable to work because they’re sick or need to self-isolate due to COVID-19, or have an underlying health condition that puts them at greater risk of getting COVID-19. ”
Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit (CRCB)
” The Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit (CRCB) gives income support to employed and self-employed individuals who are unable to work because they must care for their child under 12 years old or a family member who needs supervised care. This applies if their school, regular program or facility is closed or unavailable to them due to COVID-19, or because they’re sick, self-isolating, or at risk of serious health complications due to COVID-19.”
